Proofreading is performed by a linguist, without taking the source text into account . This liberates the proofreader, making it easier for them to improve quality, flow and consistency in the translated document. Linguists may also correct any typos, spelling, grammar or punctuation mistakes.

Reviewing is performed by a second translator once the first has translated it. Unlike proofreading, reviewing does take the source text into account, comparing it with the translation. This ensures that the translated document does put across the same message as the source document.
